Our Immune system is our first line defense system which works better when protected from external factors such as smoking, respiratory infection etc. and by following healthy life style. Eating foods to boost immune system such as fruits and vegetables which are rich in Vitamin A, Vitamin C, beta carotene and zinc helps to fight against flu and cold. Let’s look at few foods that really helps us.

Tea and Lemon:
Sipping a cup of tea when you are suffering from cold or flu is well known remedy. But when you have 2-3 slices of lemon along with hot tea, it works fantastic. Lemon and tea both contains ‘quercetin’ which helps to boost immune system.

Spinach:
Spinach is leafy green vegetable loaded with lot of Vitamin A and Zinc. Both are active components to fight against flu and cold. Even a study published in the journal Nature found that when spinach consumed by pregnant women boost baby’s immune system.

Carrots:
Carrots are rich source of Vitamin A which is known for its immune boosting activity. Vitamin A also helps in strengthening the tissues of digestive system and respiratory systems. The beta carotene content and Antioxidant property makes it more powerful food for you. So have 1 or 2 serving of carrot in your daily diet, it will meet Vitamin A daily recommended requirement as well as it boosts immune system and strengthens it.

Eggs:
The protein rich source eggs are also a great way to boost your immune system. Along with protein and iron, they have good amount of Vitamin A, helps you to protect from flu. It’s always recommended to kick start the day with eggs or having 3-4 times per week will help you.

Pineapple:
One of the research conducted at Philippine Women's University School of Nutrition found that eating daily ½ cup of pineapple for 2 months helped boost immune system. One of reason revealed that pineapple contains some nutrients that boots production of 'granulocytes' which makes white blood cells, the defense system of our body.

Chicken Soup:

Yes as usual the list is incomplete without chicken. Although it is Grandma’s remedy, now it has got scientific evidences too. A group of German Researchers found that chicken contains carsonine, an important component which helps to fight infection, ease respiratory symptoms and boosts overall immune system. In addition to that it also possess hydrating property, very important factor to recover you from sickness.
